With Pearcy back on their first disc in 11 years, Ratt ripped up and rocked out 2010.  Infestation could have easily been released between Invasion of Your Privacy and Dancing Undercover. All killer, no filler here folks.
Armored Saint - La Raza

A 10-year lapse between records and the Saint returns as a Hard Rock band? It’s close in several spots, but that doesn’t make La Raza any less inspired or awesome. Also, La Raza may be the best, most organic sounding album of 2010.

Fear Factory has always followed up good albums with soggy ones.  After regaining much lost ground with Archetype, 2005’s Transgression proved to be a total bomb and the band fell apart. Talk about picking up the pieces and then some! Who would have thought they would release their most aggressive album since Demanufacture some 15 years later?
Cathedral - The Guessing Game

Perhaps the most fitting title of any album released in 2010.  Listeners were either guessing what drugs Cathedral was on or where the inspiration to space-out their formula came from.  But regardless of all the oddities, The Guessing Game is full of great songs, great creativity, great performances and most importantly great riffs.
Overkill - Ironbound

Overkill has been carrying the entire thrash genre on their back for years.  Even when they got a little soft (I Hear Black), they were still the saviors of thrash’s “Dark Decade” (1994 - 2004) and one of the chief inspirations for the “Retro Rejuvination” (2007-2009) of thrash.  Their 16th album proves to be one of their best and leaves their old school and new school competition on the dust.
While it was another grand year for Metal it also was one of the worst.  Two of my absolute favorite artists passed away. I am saddened to never hear new material from them again. At least they left me with plenty to cherish.

2010 should probably be called The Year of the Established.  Whether it was the reformation of band’s that disbanded or disappeared (Ratt, Jackyl, Danzig, The Crown, Armored Saint, Fear Factory) or reputable artists with new supergroups (Black Country Communion, Charred Walls of the Damned), the seasoned vets took control of this year and delivered the goods.
