CLASSIC ALBUM REVIEW
STAFF TOP TEN PICKS
STAFF TOP TEN PICKS
STAFF TOP TEN PICKS
I might get knocked for putting this album on my list, but I feel Chimaira have outdone themselves with this album, evolving their sound while becoming a heavier and tighter animal, something I’ve hoped for since they dropped off of Roadrunner.
Chimaira - The Infection
10
Devildriver - Pray For Villains
9
Devildriver continues to pump out some great releases, continuing to evolve more into their own sound, especially on this album. All things considered, I think they’ve come rather far since their first release, and look forward to more from them.
Eluveitie - Evocation I - The Arcane Dominion
8
Eluveitie continue to put out great material, and this acoustic album is no exception. Really looking forward to their next album (not acoustic), out in 2010.
Hypocrisy - A Taste of Extreme Divinity
7
Another band I am new to, but damned if this isn’t the heaviest release on my list and deserves the recognition! I’ll certainly be checking out Hypocrisy’s other albums in the near future. I find it hard to believe I’d be disappointed as A Taste of Extreme Divinity is brutally solid.
Be’lakor - Stone’s Reach
6
I can’t give this album any more of a recommendation than I did in my review. You should absolutely be giving this album a listen.
Susperia - Attitude
5
I have to admit that I am new to Susperia, but what a great album! This put a lot of this year’s releases to shame and certainly earned its spot on this list!
Megadeth - Endgame
2
Megadeth is at the top of their game despite the album title stating otherwise. I expected nothing less, and the album delivered so much more. I personally can’t wait to catch these guys on tour in February 2010.
Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know
4
While I don’t believe that Heaven & Hell brought anything new to the table as far as this album is concerned, I enjoyed it thoroughly and hope they will continue to put out more releases.
Slayer - World Painted Blood
3
Slayer’s most diverse and varied release in quite a while is also one of their recent best, breaking Slayer’s trademark sound for something more layered and focused. Not too much to knock on this release.
Candlemass - Death Magic Doom
1
Although I had a hard time hunting down this album and finally found only one copy in stock (being one of 800 fans to buy the record, according to the Nielsen SoundScan, on its U.S. release week), Rob Lowe’s second Candlemass record (with songs built more around his vocal style) is a solid release no doom metal fan should miss out on.
