With the same feel as The Sword, Baroness’s eclectic 70’s sound conjures up an older feel and sound.  Not overproduced or too far refined, their calmer songs are an enjoyable break from the chaos I generally listen to.  With moody, but ever moving and creeping guitars, and simplistic drums, Blue Record is like a breeze on a warm night; it’s mellow but so sweet, and you wish it would just stay that way.

Slayer - World Painted Red

BAND'S WEBSITE
I didn’t get a lot of time alone with this album, but it’s Slayer, and it sounds like other Slayer, and who doesn’t like Slayer?  [Insert witty responses here]  I need another month for this album to properly sit in my blood and make me crazy and want to hear it a million and a half times.  It’s solid Slayer though, and if you’re a fan you’ll enjoy it.  The good and bad news though: it sounds like there is no song to replace “Disciple” with as their opening song at live shows.  That’s okay though, cause that’s my favorite, and I’d have to slap Slayer if they change it.  And I don’t think I could take on Kerry King.
Suffocation - Blood Oath

BAND'S WEBSITE
I could be partial to Suffocation due to their formation down the block from me, but more than likely it's because they are a staple in the death metal scene.  Blood Oath stays true to their sound and makes it an easy choice for a top 10.  The riffs are complex but meaty. This album will leave your craving for very heavy music completely satisfied.

Cattle Decapitation - The Harvest Floor

BAND'S WEBSITE
If a band can live in a box, fairly devoid of critics and criticisms from sheepish fans then you get Cattle Decapitation.  Fearlessly they pursue their craft, pushing forward and evolving as they want to, not concerned with pleasing mass media but only the people who understand them.  The Harvest Floor is like if a grindcore oil tanker and a deathcore ship loaded with combustible materials collided… so many penguins died.

Dying Fetus - Descend into Depravity

BAND'S WEBSITE
Despite Fetus’s ongoing battle to keep one lineup, Descend into Depravity was overdue and welcomed by me.  Dying Fetus has lost no edge and comes out swinging (and kicking) as hard and relentless as before.   It is my hope that Dying Fetus continues to burn across the face of Metal music for years to come, changing how musicians and fans alike view metal music and its progression.
Megadeth - Endgame

Maybe what I always liked about Megadeth was the way that they manage to stay ahead of their old peers and rivals.  Their music is still some of the best composed out there, and as of the last few albums seems to only get better.  They had their dip in the mid 90s but now are rising back out as a great phoenix.  My only thought is that. for such an intelligent band. why do they insist on consistently dumbing down their lyrics?  Dave, we can take it.  Hit us with some of that intelligence I know you got.
Nile - Those Whom The Gods Detest

Nile continues to kick the teeth in on the conventions of what metal should and should not be.  What’s too heavy?  Nothing, according to Nile after six albums that progressively get better, stay crisp, and remain heavier then ever.  With the precision of a razor Nile continues to carve out their position in metal history with yet another solid album.
Red Chord - Fed Through The Teeth Machine

The Red Chord continues to satisfy my need to hear heavy music done right, with witty lyrics and rich thick heavy death metal fused with hardcore riffs, screams, and grunts.  If your thought is “Man, I am starved for something heavy and complex, but with moments of blissful breakdown,” then you need a hearty helping of The Red Chord.  Blast beats, double bass, and the occasional ride keep the percussion spicy, while the guitars’ palm mutes are thick and filled with sprinkles of highs and lows.  The screams hold the whole thing together with a coating of poignant lyrics and juicy bites that reemphasize this whole dish.  Look, if your mouth doesn’t water for The Red Chord, then it’s possible you just enjoy starving.

Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky -
The Grand Partition and the Abrogation of Idolatry
Truth be told, I listened to these guys jokingly.  Typically bands with extremely long names are terrible.  But now, it is my belief that, aside from being completely pissed off at damn near every institution man has instated, SWWAATS must have decided to go with such a long name to right the wrongs of acts like Between The Buried and Me and …And You Will Know Us From The Trail of Dead.  SWAATS first full-length album will beckon you back again and again to get your rage on with these death metal beasts.  Boys, just do me a favor and at least have a short name for your next album, my hand cramped.

Cannibal Corpse is alive and well, which warms metalheads’ hearts.  Claiming to strive to make a heavier album each time out, Cannibal Corpse tries and succeeds with Evisceration Plague.  Setting the bar isn’t always easy, but Cannibal Corpse continues to keep newcomers on their toes by continually making brutal music for the masses.
