Hands down, one of the best black/speed albums I’ve ever heard. It’s in constant rotation in my player, and that says a lot! Satan’s finest offering to the metal world! If you like Hellhammer, Slayer and Venom you have to hear this or just give up on metal!

My long line of Sabbath-worship permits me to include this album, as it’s a solid effort, even if it doesn’t stand up to Heaven and Hell. The masters are still at the top of the game when bands who are half their collective ages still can’t figure out the Boss metal pedal.

Layne Staley’s absence is surely felt on this release, but the band’s first offering without him is a perfect accompaniment to an already solid lineage. I think it’s the beginning of good things to come for a band rife with tragedy thus far.

What a surprise to hear this brilliant album, easily one of the best death metal albums of the year! Obituary has let up not one iota, and if you haven’t heard this then why listen to death metal at all?
Judgment Hammer - Arbiter of Fate

These guys from Montana really just kicked me where it counts! They took pages out of the thrash metal almanac and are going to rewrite the damn thing if they’re not careful.
Megadeth - Endgame

For me, this is Megadeth’s best offering since 1990’s Rust in Peace. Mustaine is at the top of his game on this album, and the album is one of the better thrash albums to come out this year. Glad to see Dave finally bested Metallica – it only took twenty years!
Vader - Necropolis

Can you tell Pitor is back to writing? For me, this is the best of the year, and as much as I love the other titles on my list, NOTHING compares to the mighty Vader. Poland ’s finest export does it yet again! A masterpiece!
