CONCERT REPORT
March 18, 2010
Victimizer is a death/thrash metal band from Denmark who’ve put out several EPs and splits as well as one full-length record over the last decade or so.  Resurrected Abominations is their latest EP out on Hells Headbangers, and it’s an absolutely ripping little thrash explosion of a record.  First off, the record is, I’m trying to not say surprisingly, amazingly well produced and is, in fact, one of the most professional sounding records I’ve heard from Hells Headbangers in quite some time.  The band sounds powerful as hell and the depth of the production lends a very full and ultra-heavy sound that complements Victimizer’s dark and violent style quite well.

Vicitimizer basically does everything a thrash band in the modern era should be doing.    Heavily death metal influenced, and infused with more than a little black metal sensibility,  the songs here are all comprised of some seriously catchy  and intense riffs all carried out with the utmost of precision. The band keeps the intensity level elevated throughout the entire EP and display a true talent for varying up the tempos a bit, successfully avoiding two of the biggest problems plaguing many bands playing in this style, who either plod along afraid to ever really let ‘er rip, or suffer total loss of any facet of memorability because they’re continuously locked on all-out-assault mode.  Up-tempo, exciting opening track “Worthy of Hell” is a total mosh fest, and is an instant eye-opener to the thrash mastery that Victimizer is capable of, and the uproariously heavy title track “Resurrected Abominations”, with its stomping riffs is the highlight on a record made entirely of extremely strong material.  We also get a little touch of the obscure paying tribute to the obscure with an excellent cover of “Lucifer’s Domain” by Australia’s Hobb’s Angel of Death.

Victimizer is a woefully unknown and underrated band putting out thrash of a caliber simply unattainable to the millions of bands who’ve appeared peddling their new version of old thrash in recent years.  No faux-retro fashioning, just vicious, intense barrages of extremity.  Resurrected Abominations is really a fantastic record, and while the status of the band’s future seems to be uncertain, the quality of this most recent effort is uniquely impressive.
