By now I’d hope you know about Sargeist and they’re being the best Black Metal band working today, about their absolutely fantastic triumvirate of full-length albums; the most recent of which was without doubt one of the highlights of Metal Year 2010.  What you may not be aware of is this two song 7” record released the day before Thanksgiving on kult NYC label Hospital Productions.  Very little info seems to be available about this recording, but one would assume that the tracks are leftovers from the Let the Devil In sessions, though I definitely get a little more of a Disciple of the Heinous Path vibe from the material, particularly “Nightmares and Necromancy” which displays Shatraug’s uncanny proficiency at crafting quintessentially Finnish sounding punk laced Black Metal with the kind of catchy riffs that never get old.  Tempos blend effortlessly, Hoath Torog is his on top of his game, and the track is a great example of why this band is so excellent.  “The Moon Growing Colder” with further brilliant trademark chord progressions is the lesser of the two, but still puts a good deal of today’s Black Metal bands to embarrassed shame.  This little release was a great surprise, and only serves to make the wait for the next Sargeist album even more difficult to endure.
