Humiliation - Face the Disaster
May 9, 2010
Reviewer: Jesse
Over the past few years, I’ve complained more than once about the recent rebirth of the “old school” death metal sound in new bands, but I promise that I only complain when the bands aren’t doing it right or aren’t doing it for the right reasons. Malaysian death metallers, Humiliation are doing it right. In fact, I haven’t felt this pumped up about a new death metal band in a while, but their four-track EP titled Face the Disaster should give every fan of this style something to look forward to.
Obvious Both Thrower and Obituary influences, Face the Disaster is fourteen minutes of powerful chords and thick riffs that gallop along at that trademark mid-paced speed that induces even the most stoic of metal heads to swing their hair around. “Battlefield” is basically a Bolt Thrower tribute song and uses the same blueprint from “Embers” and “The Killchain” what with the constant chugging riffs and double bass drums. Vocalist Bear Bee has what I would consider a perfect death metal growl; not too high and not gurgling in bowels of the earth. A good middle ground that sounds like a growled bark with no effects at all. Lyrically… war. What else.
For a debut recording, it sounds spectacular as they used very professional mastering by Saff Mastering, who doesn’t typically do metal albums. All aspects together make for a highly impressive collection of debut material. There’s not too much to say with only about fourteen and a half minutes here, but I’m already excited to see what these guys can create on a full-length. Great work.
