CONCERT REPORT

Grondhaat is a Czech Black Metal band headed up by Trollech mainman Asura, and the debut album Humanity: The Flesh for Satan’s Pigs is a rather dismal affair you might want to avoid as it’s an album that despite its truncated running time is something of a chore to get through.
This is some seriously grimy stuff. Essentially the recording quality is about as lo-fi as it gets. Upon a casual listen, the first noticeable quality of the record is that all you can hear are the vocals. The mix is such that in order to hear even the guitars, you have to crank the volume up to a level that puts the vocals at terrifying heights. Side-project-standard simplistic Black Metal pushing the limits of Evil imagery whilst lowering the bar on musicality significantly. The Beherit cover manages to render a simplistic yet universally affective track bland, though the following track “Incantations of Dark Gates” follows as perhaps the one saving grace of this sloppy, unfortunately largely pointless release. I could see fans of the extremely grim side of Black Metal maybe finding something here to pass the time with, and most likely the music here seems it might lend itself more to the vinyl format thus collectors could possibly wish to have this if it indeed has seen a vinyl release. Asura has surely done some wonderful things with the Trollech outfit, and listeners would do themselves far more good to seek out a copy of that band’s Skryti v Mlze, because Humanity: The Flesh for Satan’s Pigs is extremely difficult to recommend.
