CONCERT REPORT
Children of Technology - It’s Time to Face the Doomsday
This hybrid of punk and thrash has been pretty much dormant since D.R.I. and Suicidal Tendencies kicked in the door so many years ago, and with most efforts since then it should have been left for dead more than once. So Italy’s Children of Technology emerge with its first full-length release after a host of splits and singles titled It’s Time to Face the Doomsday, which makes perfect use of the crossover sound from ages past.

With a sound much like Venom, Motorhead, Celtic Frost, Toxic Holocaust and early Sodom, C.O.T. creates a wholly awesome record that is neither too serious in its efforts, yet just structured enough to take them very seriously as a band.  With Venom-like production and song style, Doomsday presents to the yearning masses a collective worthy of inclusion right next to Welcome to Hell or Morbid Tales; the complex disheveled feel of “Nuclear Armed Dogs” is so intense that you simply find yourself banging your head without care for those around you or their feelings or concerns. It’s an ugly as hell album, and that’s what makes it so much fun and classic. I honestly predict this might well be one of the classic releases we look to when talking about a modern throwback to the days of old when crap production and silly lyrics ruled supreme.

What C.o.T. lacks in lyrical prowess they more than make up for with the sincere ball they seem to be having making and performing these songs with reckless abandon. The vocals are Tom G. Warrior meets early Lemmy to a perfect point that are perfect for the music. I am honestly infinitely surprised I like this CD as much as I do; I anticipated something far less in quality and substance, but I am, once again, happily fooled. “Escape From the Danger Zone” is about as close to Venom’s original sound as I’ve heard from any band since Possessed. Throughout the album there’s nothing but fun, melodic thrashing to the punk style made famous by albums like Dealing with It! or Four of a Kind by D.R.I., classics in and of themselves.

I can only say that people that are fans of thrashing punk that makes no conscious effort to change the world or reinvent traditional genres should give C.o.T. a college try and I can almost guarantee you’ll really dig what you’re hearing. I really want to hear even more from these guys, so keep at it!
