CONCERT REPORT
April 16, 2010
Reviewer: Kesh
You cannot truly appreciate a thing unless you can laugh at it. Finding humor in everyday mundane tasks is a dying art, which the elite few, called comedians, achieve on an enjoyable level. Brian Posehn is one of these people. And he’s one of the elite few of us who appreciate metal.

Maybe it’s because of my mood recently, but I have enjoyed listening to this, the spontaneous fits of this odd-sounding thing called “laughter” that is giving me this warm fuzzy feeling deep in my gut. I think it’s called “gut-busting laughter,” a phenomena I have not experienced in a long time. My poor black metal loving heart is going to break from the positive emotion.

His exuberance for metal is only eclipsed by his funniness. My favorite bits from the album are "iTunes," “Metal Fans” and "Party Like a Rockstar." All three are incredibly hilarious and show his wit and knowledge of metal, and I haven’t even started on the two musical tracks on the disk. I now have two favorite quotes from this album that I will probably never forget for the rest of my life:

"Take off your thinking caps, I’m about to make it stupid in here..." and "Thanks baby Jesus for making me look all rapey."

There are many more, but I don’t want to spoil the entire album for you.

Classic!

The two music tracks, “More Metal than You,” and “The Gambler” are the true genius pieces on the album. If you are familiar with his song, “Metal By Numbers” from his previous album Live In: Nerd Rage, then you will know what to expect from him as far as the two songs on the album are concerned… or so you might think. “More Metal Than You,” is a hilarious look at the “who’s more metal contests that, although rare, do occur from time to time when metal heads meet. I’ve only ever seen this once, but this song would have been great playing in the back ground when it had happened.

Then there is the final track, “the Gambler” which took me by surprise when I realized he was covering Kenny Rogers. Though in hindsight, I don’t think I should be that surprised by it after Mastodon covered a song by the same artist. But Brian Posehn’s version of “The Gambler” is far superior to Mastodon’s cover of “Just Dropped In” which is decent. I never, ever thought I would ever hear what is essentially a death metal cover of Kenny Rogers. Never ever in a million years. And it’s part of the reason I am giving the release the high rating I am.

This album, while pretty much not a musical album, is more metal than most and a great introspective on the life-style that accompanies being a true metal head. It just goes to show, that sometimes you can take yourself too seriously, and sometimes, even the most kvlt of Norwegian black metal guru’s should probably step back, take a deep breath and look around at the rest of the world around them. There is more to life than being evil and being angry at the world.
