CONCERT REPORT
Bloodwritten - Whore
May 13, 2010
Reviewer: J. A. Burt
These days it seems everyone is out to out black-thrash each other, and alls I can do is sit back and reap the benefits.  Metal these days is literally bursting at the seams, engorged with heaps of unholy blackened thrashy war metal of death bands, and to be honest I couldn’t be happier.  Let the drunken, uncouth, unrefined blasphemy pour forth my good sirs!  Bloodwritten from Warsaw is one of the lesser known bands of this ilk.  I mean way lesser known.  I mean when I got their second album, which is actually their first in the blackened thrash vein Iniquity Intensity Insanity a couple years back, I frustratingly could not find another person who had had the pleasure of hearing it.  A couple years later and I’ve STILL never encountered another fan of this band.  People, this is criminal!!!  These guys kick ass and their newly released EP Whore solidifies this fact in it’s all too brief time with your ears.

Bloodwritten’s always infused a bit more of a melodic tendency into their attack giving their songs a sort of simple and uplifting energy without sacrificing too much darkness and grief, as though they balance their black metal aspects with more of a harder edged traditional metal style than the straight forward godfather thrash generally favored by most black thrash outfits.  Not overly raw, but far from polished to a sterile sheen, Whore is pretty much two new songs for the band released, I’d imagine, in an effort to find a label to release their next full-length.  I can only hope that they’ll be successful in getting signed to someone, or else release that thing themselves, since It’s pretty obvious that it’s gonna be a good one.  Both new tracks here “Whore”, and “Bullet Overdose” are fantastic.  They both showcase Bloodwritten’s knack for catchy songwriting that few bands in the black thrash realm come close to.  Bastard’s vocals are perfect for the genre, and the riffs are tight and gratifying.  The sound quality of the live version of “Taste Insanity” is pretty abysmal, but the instrumental demo track tacked on to the end is a good listen.  Whore would make for a mandatory 7” purchase, but I’m not sure if it’s even for sale in any form, but Iniquity Intensity Insanity sure as hell is so go buy it damn it!
