does 'many more bands' include any that anyone's heard of?

The only bands listed I'd be happy to see is Hammer Horde and Northland. Doesn't matter, this is so damn far away the lineup will change numerous times before then. Someone involved in putting this on said on Facebook that they got ideas for bands to ask to play by looking up bands they didn't know about on YouTube.

I have some reservations about the organizers too, but we'll see. It's definitely a long way off. I already see two glaring issues. One: they have two essentially no-name bands with one album a piece coming from Romania and Russia. Those are very expensive flights for bands of five people who will more than likely want an extra person coming along, possibly two. Is the organizer going to shell out that kind of money for two bands who have no draw whatsoever? Or is he assuming they'll pay their own way like he did with Nomans Land? If it's the latter and unless those guys in the band are rich, those bands will cancel. They're not going to pay $5000+ and take all that time off work to fly over here for a 40-45 minute set and have maybe 20 people even know who they are. Other issue: might want to look into the label Ashaena is on. Just sayin'. Not that a lot of the people who go to this fest will care, but you know.

It's guilt by association and Eastside has some pretty blatantly nazi and RAC bands on their roster. "Sketchy" is putting it lightly. If Ashaena isn't and doesn't want to be associated with that stuff, then you don't sign with a label like that. No Colours is an interesting case in this kind of thing. They've definitely had bands like this in the past, but other than Graveland, they really don't anymore. I mean, Intestine Baalism is on No Colours and they're Japanese. I'm just saying that if you're opposed to it, you don't sign on. There are a litany of tiny labels around the world who you can sign with.

They're politically indifferent, hardly an excuse, at best in this case.

Interesting that this is on again. Several years back Waylander were negociating to play when they decided to pull the plug on the Festival. I presume it's being organised by different people ?
No harm in giving them a roar i suppose as it might just tie in with something hypotheticly in the pipeline............

Maybe they are but the guys puttin it on now said they had to look on YouTube to find new bands to ask to play. I thought the original guys were into the music more than that. But then again, the one about 4 or 5 years ago I tried to get Cruachan on the bill and the dudes putting it on said "Never heard of them, ask them to send us some material so we can see if they fit the bill". I told Keith Fay and apparently Keith made up this nice package with CD's and info and what-not, and the Heathen Crusade guys never got back with him. I mena, come on... to deny Cruachan for a folk metal fest? Would be as bad as denying your band.

they've mostly been able to bring in the bands they promise. a few have fallen through because of visas or double bookings or whatever. some of the no name bands in the past have actually been some of the biggest crowd pleasers. Virtually no one had heard of mael mordha when we saw them at hc2 and they stole the fuckin show, it was a crazy good time. Not every band is a knockout at HC, but the organizers definitely pick pretty good shit.
I frankly don't ultimately care what the lineup looks like. the two I've been to have been incredible fun and I saw nick's penis. I guess it might be a harder sell to someone who hasn't been yet, but all I need is a date and I'm there.

How can they have 'many more bands tba' when it looks like it's just a one day festival on March 9th, 2013. Are all the bands just gonna play like only 15 minutes? I'll still make the trek up there though.

No names don't bring people in though, but I agree that they always do make big splashes at fests. You just can't sell tickets on that. You have to have big ticket draws. And those smaller bands are all fine and good if they actually show up, one way or the other. Fests are a tricky business. I would definitely go.

And they're from Ireland. Much cheaper flights from the UK than eastern Europe and Russia. Shit, that doesn't even take into account the visa issue. UK visas are much much easier to obtain than Romania or Russia. Trust me.

Yep way cheaper flights to and from Ireland than from Russia. I'd love to see them bring Primordial back over here since I won't be able to go see them at Progpower in Atlanta this year.

I would definitely go. well, that's true. mostly it doesn't seem like many people have come from elsewhere. At hc 2 there were only two canadians aside from band members. And hc2 didn't lack for big names. fact is, it's a fest in minnesota... in year's past on these boards there were people saying 'these guys should be hosting in some other city', but I gotta hand it to someone who tried to promote things in their hometown if only because no one else is doing it. anyway, the majority of fans at these shows seems to be metal regulars from minnesota. station 4 is 'the' metal venue and I'd suspect a lot of folks that will be there are there every other weekend anyway. And being a year in advance, I would not be surprised to see some big name bands get announced well before the event is close.

This is going to be a repeat of HC3. It'll be awesome but bands will bail leaving it less awesome than it should've been with a promoter that actually takes care of bands outside of the headliner.
