Little is known about the Canadian band WEAPON. There are two bands with this name, but the one in question is a band from the province of Alberta. Other than that, the band would rather have their music speak for them. Their debut full length Drakonian Paradigm was released this past Summer and is black metal with hints of death and heavy metal thrown in for good measure. Recently, Metal Psalter talked to the founder of the band Vetis Monarch in hopes of shedding a light on what the band is all about.
Peter: Would you mind giving a brief history of the band?
Vetis Monarch: WEAPON began in early 2003 C.E.. To date, we have released one Demo, two EPs, and one full-length album.
Peter: What are some of the band’s influences?
Vetis Monarch: Musical inspiration comes from bands like Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Samael, Mystifier, Deicide, Mortuary Drape, Bolt Thrower, etc. Lyrical inspiration comes from the mysteries of death and the Devil.
Peter: Recently, WEAPON released their debut album in Drakonian Paradigm. What are some of the things that you can say about the album from a recording and production standpoint?
Vetis Monarch: Considering that the album was recorded in a technically-challenged studio, it doesn't sound all that bad. None of the current members of WEAPON are actually very satisfied with the production, but the songs themselves are poisonous, and therein lies our strength. Thanks to Stew Kirkwood, we were able to make Drakonian Paradigm presentable after the mixing process at Sound Extractor Studio. The elements that we incorporate in our music deserve clarity and a powerful production, not noise. Our main priority at the moment is to ensure that our future albums sound up to our standards.
Peter: Are there any themes or concepts on the album and if so, would you mind explaining them and how it relates to the music?
Vetis Monarch: We are a BLACK Metal band; therefore all of our lyrics, themes, and art are inherently connected to Satanism.
Peter: What are your views on National Socialist black metal?
Vetis Monarch: We are not into NS ideals, but to each, his own. Call your music National Socialist Metal if you must, but politics and racial issues have no place in Black Metal at all.
Peter: Are there any shows lined up in the near future?
Vetis Monarch: We are talking with a few bands right now regarding live shows. Announcements will be made when the time is right.
Peter: Anything else that you would like to add?
Vetis Monarch: Official WEAPON merchandise can be ordered directly from weaponchakra.com.
