CONCERT REPORT
BAND INFO
Matteo "Vinctor" Barelli:
Vocals, Guitar, Keyboards, Programming

Claudio "Malphas" Fogliato:
Bass

Massimo "m:A Fog" Altomare:
Drums
Formed: 2004 - Genova,  ITALY
Label:  ATMF - Genre: Black Metal
CURRENT LINE-UP:
Jesse: What other hobbies do you have aside from playing music?

Vinctor: Listening to it! I'm studying to become a sound engineer so there is also this aspect in my life as far as music goes. Then I stroll around with my bike a little bit, I like reading, messing up with the computer...watching some soccer and American football games, hehe.

Jesse: Janvs is credited as residing in Genova. Is that your home town or are from a different part of the country originally?

Vinctor: No I was born in Genova and always lived there, only recently I have to go back and forth from here to Milan. But I'm the only band member from Genoa in Janus, both Malphas and m:A Fog are from Piedmont (Piemonte) though Malphas has been living in Genoa for some years now and m:A Fog travels constantly from Italy to Switzerland now! We are pretty messed up geographically.

Jesse: . How would describe the current metal scene in Italy? What relatively unknown bands should we be keeping our eyes open for?

Vinctor: Honestly I don't follow it very much. I can tell you some names but I'm sure you already know them all, I think our label is doing a pretty good job finding talents in our home country.

Jesse: When did you first know that you were going to be a musician? What was the first instrument you learned?

Vinctor: Actually I didn't think I was ever to play seriously and make a band until very late in my life, until I was around 18 in fact, now I'm 25. I started playing bass as a sort of little game (in fact I played piano when I was 12 or so), then I switched to guitar after a short time. I took some lessons of both but I never did really get along well with them...at a certain point the idea of making music started to manifest in my mind and grew up in time until it became an obsession, at this point I founded Janus. My first attempts at doing and recording music were pretty crappy but I just kept being pushed forward by this strange stubbornness, the idea to fail in making something meaningful was just unacceptable, I felt I just had something special to say, something I couldn't delude. I hope I'm not stubborn in vain!

Jesse: Any predictions for the 2010 World Cup? Will Italy defend its title?

Vinctor: Ah! Mmm...not sure what to say here. I would like to say that I hope the team that will showcase the most beautiful football will win, but you know...when you are there losing to France, Spain or Germany you aren't thinking that even if your have been playing in a bloody horrible way the wrong tournament and you would deserve to go home at last. Italy has some very good young players, I hope they will be given a chance instead of going the safe way with the bulk of the team kept in from the 2006 championship, as we have unfortunately the same coach again.

Jesse: What does the immediate future look like for Janvs?

Vinctor: Probably I will fully re-record my first musical effort "Nigredo" which is not to be considered part of our production at the moment. I think I'll do that alone as I did it back then. Nothing about that album should be considered official at the moment, it never got really printed and you can't trust all you can find on the net, on servers of various kinds, ecc. ecc. For example I know that someone was pretending to sell it in your country quite recently!

Jesse: Any last words or something for the readers to think about?

Vinctor: Well, we just want to thank all the people who have supported us and all the ones who will support us. We really believe in what we do, we are not a metal show-business band, it's really important for us when someone really "feels", gets involved in our albums and supports our activity. Thank you very much for the interview.
