Metal Psalter is a webzine dedicated to in-depth and professional music journalism covering the entire range of dark and heavy metal music. We're an enterprising new force in music reporting. With our diverse range of articles, we provide new perspectives and insight on leading metal artists and emerging talent. Metal Psalters host a lively, dynamic forum where you can discuss anything from H.P. Lovecraft to David Lynch [or whatever examples you'd like]. We welcome you to join and support the modern metal scene by becoming an member today!
Here at Metal Psalter, you'll notice that we use the 5-point rating system instead of the more popular 10-point system. Our goal is to inspire more reading and less score-skimming and with half-points, it almost works out to a 10-point system but we recommend that you do not simply multiply the score by two to get the equivalent of a 10-point score. A score of 3 stars should be seen as a good score and not the equivalent of a 6 which is seen as a failing grade in most people's view.

Here's a rough breakdown of how we see the 5-point system:

0 - We honestly don't think anything should ever be given a zero. If it's that bad, then we're not reviewing it.

.5 to 1.5 - The worst of the worst. Pretty much the most disappointing or amateurish stuff we've encountered.

2 - It isn't good, but we've heard and seen worse. Maybe a few bright spots, but mostly forgettable.

2.5 - The middle ground. A mediocre release with good and bad that leans towards good.

3 to 3.5 - Very promising and above average. More positive than negative and with a little polish in certain areas, has major potential.

4 to 4.5 - Outstanding and immensely enjoyable. High level of quality and executed with supreme focus. A release with very few flaws or defects and that you could experience over and over. This is one of the best of the year.

5 - This is a PERFECT score. A 5 should be reserved for those truly transcendent and groundbreaking releases. A monumental achievement on every level. A release that will stand the test of time and ultimately serve as a benchmark to which other releases in its genre will be measured to.
