Marduk's U.S. Plague Tour 2009
BACK
Chicago, Illinois based Nachtmystium was up next. These guys were high energy and had some very rabid fans, one of which was making it very difficult for me to do my job of observing and reporting on the show as it was happening, and taking the notes I needed to write up my report. From what I do remember from these guys, they played well and sounded great, and I hope I get to see them again. Maybe I can give a better report on them then.
When Marduk finally took the stage, the crowd exploded. I heard everything from new favorites "To Redirect Perdition" and “Steel Inferno” to Legion-era stuff and more. They played a good mix of past and present that I’m sure was satisfying to fans both old and new. Mortuus was every- where on stage, encouraging the crowd to be more reactive and  more  frenzied.
Nachtmystium
Morgan’s guitar playing was phen-omenal; Lars and Devo were setting a groove that made the crowd, although somewhat tired because it was 1:30 in the morning, move and react to the music in a mesmerized frenzy. But while I was highly impressed with the band’s performance and was screaming and yelling at the top of my lungs and trying to be as energetic as I possibly could, a good portion of the crowd was rather lame. Whether it was anticipation of their oncoming turkey-comas or just plain exhaustion from all the other bands and the late hour (the show didn’t actually end until 3am!), the crowd at this show was dead by the time Marduk took the stage. I hope this doesn’t influence the band from avoiding Florida on their next tour, though after a showing like that, I wouldn’t  blame  them  if  they  did.
Marduk
Aside from all the technical problems that seemed to plague all the bands throughout the entire show (not a single band seemed to let this affect them, continuing to play while the issues were fixed) and obnoxious or drained fans, I thought the show was great!  Overall, I would pay again to see every one of these bands, which is a first for a concert (at least for me). I can't wait to see any one of these bands again!
