Impatience!
April 6, 2010

Paul Ledney reformed Profanatica in 2001 to introduce a new generation of metalheads to their raw, vile filth that stands among the best black metal to ever come out of the United States. Profanatitas De Domonatia (2007) was Profanatica’s first full-length release and is one of my favorite albums of the decade. If any album captures what black metal “should” sound like, that one does. I’ve been waiting eagerly for the follow-up, Disgusting Blasphemies Against God, for a while now though. Presumably it’s been completed, as a review has been published and several sample tracks are posted, but the release date has been pushed back repeatedly, first scheduled to be released Fall 2009, now it looks like it’s not coming out until Summer 2010. In the meantime diehard Profanatica fans can pick up The Grand Master Session, a really stunningly packaged 3-LP set, on Hells Headbangers.
Maybe I’m just too impatient, but after the underwhelming releases from Burzum (Belus) and Immolation (Majesty and Decay), my most-anticipated albums for 2010, and the overwhelming volume of mediocrity I hear coming out the metal community every day, I’m really in the mood to be blown away with something good.

So while we’re talking about New York metal and eagerly-anticipated releases, when can we expect the debut full-length from Disma? Disma’s 2009 demo The Vault of Membros was released only on cassette so was largely unnoticed despite the all-star lineup, including Craig Pillard (ex-Incantation) and Daryl Kahan (Funebrarum). The Vault of Membros was a brief but killer hybrid of early New York and Swedish schools of death metal. Disma says they’re working on a 7” EP and a full-length, and neither can get here fast enough.
