Compilation albums can be very interesting affairs when enough thought and care is put into the artist and song selection. This is the case when it comes to the Skeksis Net Label free downloadable compilations that I came across recently while perusing MySpace. Since late October of 2008, the label has put together 11 different compilations that relate to a particular theme. Each download includes released and unreleased songs from rather obscure artists that cover an array of genres. These compilations help give exposure to some good bands that might otherwise struggle to get their voices heard. Included along with the mp3s, are front booklet and back cover art with track listings so you can print them out to create your own CD and a PDF document detailing info about each band and song.

Most of the compilations stick with dark melancholic themes that are executed in a somewhat acoustic approach but the underlying influences are seemingly gothic and black metal. These free download compilations are a great way to discover new bands and music. They are highly recommended for your listening pleasure!
